Canteen
The Canteen lunch program provides a hot meal to low income persons on Sunday noon time in the Trinity dining room. Between 60 and 80 people are served each week.
This ministry was carried on largely by one person--Al Ortiz--for eight years. Trinity Church has taken on the oversight of the program. Parishioners pickup extra food donations from the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) every week. Various church and community groups prepare and serve the meal. Trinity is responsible for the first Sunday of the month.
Other groups regularly participating include St. Mark's Episcopal Church; St. Paul's Episcopal Church; Port Dickinson Baptist Church; and alums from the Fairview Recovery program. Other groups who have helped include Cub Scouts; Girls Scouts; Binghamton Rotary and Temple Concord.
A Canteen board of parishioners has been formed to coordinate and oversee this important ministry.
