On behalf of the Trinity Forums Committee, I am excited to announce this fall’s forums, which will feature two topical series plus a number of stand-alone sessions.
For three Sundays in October we will have presentations relating to “Migrations and Refugees” featuring Bruce Parmelee talking about his experiences in Africa and the Middle East; Charles Stewart, a deacon from St. James, Skaneateles, discussing El Salvador; and Susan Thornton describing her work as a volunteer in a refugee camp in Greece this summer. Through November we will have a four-week series on Loss. Of special note will be a presentation by Dr. Corinne Alexander Cole – daughter of Fred and Connie Alexander, a part time instructor at Harvard Medical School and a palliative care physician at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston – who will be speaking on “Approaching the End of Life.” We will also have forums on divorce, bereavement and “How Religious Communities Deal With Death,” the last by Fr. Glenn.
Apart from these series, on Start Up Sunday Tim Smith will host an open house updating people on the Organ/Chancel Project. We will have a presentation by Jim Galbraith of the Corning Museum of Glass about our newly recognized Whitefriars stained glass window, and two sessions on liturgical themes: “The Real Prayerbook” by Fr. Glenn and “The Evening Offices” by Fr. Glenn and Tim Smith. Fr. Glenn will also be doing an Advent presentation one Sunday in December.
The Trinity Forums are intended to educate and edify us as Christians and members of our society, a process that depends as much on the participants as on the presenters. We hope that you will join us in this venture.
