Portageville Chapel Concert - Trinity Choir Sings Faure's Requiem
Tuesday, July 31 at 7 pm
If you care to go on a road trip to Western New York, on Tuesday, July 31 you can enjoy the choir with orchestra, under the direction of Timothy E. Smith, at the Portageville Chapel; the feature item on the program is Gabriel Fauré ’s Requiem. Admission is free, with a free-will offering taken for the chapel restoration fund. The doors open at 6:30 pm, and the concert starts at 7:00 pm. You can find the Portageville Chapel at the intersection of NY 19A and Pike Street, in Portageville. Set your GPS to “3043 Pike St, Portageville, NY 14536” or just drive west on NY 436 to where NY 436 meets NY1 9A in Portageville, and look to your left - and you should see the chapel. Parking is on-street.
Portageville lies at the southern end of Letchworth State Park, which, in 2015, won the USA TODAY Readers' Choice Award for Best State Park in the United States. The old railroad bridge over the southern end of the park is gone, the new one is beautiful; there is still some (much less than last year) construction in that area of the park, and you may have to use the Castile entrance to visit the park. So, plan on taking some time to visit - or revisit - the Park while in the area. And if you are a New York State resident 62 or older, admission to the park is free under NY State’s “Golden Park Program” (weekdays; just show your NYS-issued id).
