Fr Glenn Reopening Letter

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Sometimes good news does travel fast.  It was only a week or so ago that the Bishop’s office notified us that “Beginning Saturday, June 19, 2021, each congregation will have local discretion to establish COVID-19 response guidelines within the restrictions established by New York State and in line with recommendations from the CDC.” Governor Cuomo has now announced that New York State had reached the 70% adult vaccination target and that many of the safety restrictions would be lifted.  So, it is now optional for many businesses and organizations (including religious institutions) to require safety protocols.

It is important to note that in accordance with CDC recommendations, those who have not been vaccinated are still required to wear a mask, social distance, and be rigorous in hand cleansing for their own safety.

The Reopening Committee of the Parish, led by Susan Hanes, met to discuss what all of this means for Trinity.  The Vestry approved the committee’s recommendations that beginning June 27th, masking and social distancing will not be required for vaccinated individuals.  On that day we will also begin congregational singing and a summer choir at the 10am service.  Those who have not been vaccinated are still required by New York State and CDC guidelines to wear a mask and social distance for their own protection.

It is suggested for those who are not vaccinated (and those who are vaccinated but still concerned about infection), to sit in the back third of the pews, behind most of the congregation who will be singing, with less possibility of any infection.

Please be aware as we reopen with fewer restrictions, there may be a number of our members who, for a variety of reasons, will still elect to be masked and to socially distance themselves.  Some people may not feel comfortable with standing close to another person, shaking hands, or embracing one another. I encourage everyone to please be respectful and loving.  Please be considerate and accommodating and honor other people’s decisions.

We hope that everyone recognizes that the goal of the Reopening Committee and Vestry recommendations is to try to ensure the safest environment possible as we regather.  This is the time when the installation of our top rate air purification system in the main church, Hoyt Room, Choir Room, Dining Room and Common Room will prove it’s worth. The air system in the church filters and sanitizes the air using HEPA filters as well as ultraviolet light and ionization, providing three air exchanges per hour.

Please remember, we will be continuing our online services at 10am each Sunday even as we meet in person for worship.  So, if you don’t feel comfortable rejoining in person worship yet, or if you are feeling under the weather, you can join us online on either Facebook or YouTube and please don’t be shy about using the chat feature!

We will be having Holy Eucharist on June 27th and July 11th with Fr. Jim Jones celebrating and other Sundays will be Morning Prayer.  I expect to be able to return August 1st and 8th prior to my annual vacation which is planned from Aug. 15-Sept. 5th.

Again, I would encourage us to be faithful, to be safe, and be considerate of one another,

bearing one another’s burdens and fulfilling the law of Christ.  Let us hope and pray that the Covid numbers continue to decrease in our communities, so that people may enjoy a return to a more “normal” routine.

In Christ’s love and faithfulness,
